New for 2019 I’m running a one day dance camp in Exmouth. This is a great chance to get your dancing children out of the house over the winter holiday, so you can have a day without them, or begrudgingly get back to work.
The day will run between 9am and 5pm, with drop off starting at 8:30am. There will also be a showcase performance at the end of the day so do please come for 4:45pm if you’d like to see that. We’ll be at Littleham Village Hall, home to many of the classes I teach in conjunction with Exe Dance Arts. Throughout the day the students will be learning 2 main dances for the final showcase, a big group number and another small group number. But there may be time for more! All students will start the day with games and a technique class, followed by their first group choreography lesson. At certain points the group will be divided into two smaller groups, to give them time to rest, and for the others to get more personalised choreography. These groups will be sectioned by age, not ability, so everyone will stick with their friends, whether they are new to dance or not.
The style of the day will be contemporary jazz, so a little more jazzy than street dance, and not quite slow and controlled enough for ballet. This style is very adaptable to different levels and will be a great way to try out dance as it can encompass a lot of other skill sets. There will also be an opportunity for us to do a little bit of Acrobatic Dance in the morning to help work on skills that they may like to show off or learn. No guarantees they’ll come away able to do front and back walkovers though!
Lunch and snacks will not be provided, so please bring them along to have during break times. The day has a limited amount of places, to ensure that everyone has enough room to dance, so do book as early as possible. If you book before midnight of the 6th of December you’ll also be able to take advantage of the Early Bird Price of £15. (Just that for 8 hours of dancing?!) Regular price is only £20, and will be available up until the day of if there are still places available.
I’m hoping they’ll be lots of happy faces at the end of the day, so it should be a great present for the holidays!
