FAQ

When starting a new activity for your child it’s natural that you may have a few questions. We’ve collated a few here that we get asked frequently.

New Students

How do I book a trial?
Trials are all booked through our class manager system. If you head to this website – https://app.classmanager.com/trials/ra-dance-fitness – You’ll see all the trials currently available. If none show up just send us an email and you can be alerted when they get added to the site.

No trials are showing up, why is that?
To help new students settle, we only do classes at the start of each term. This means that all students start learning new work at the same time and don’t have feelings of being behind. If you’d like to get involved but can’t book a trial just yet fill in our contact form to be added to the waitlist and alerted when trials are added.

If my child enjoys the trial, how do we go about booking?
Shortly after you trial you’ll receive an email (may need to check different folders as it can get filtered out!) asking if your child liked the class. Simply reply to the email and we’ll move your child on to the register for the upcoming term.

What happens if my child doesn’t join in for the trial?
Some students don’t like to join in the first session, and prefer to watch to see what the class is like first. Don’t worry! We find that many are still able to make a decision as to whether they enjoyed the class, and often if they did the next lesson they’re in ready to dance before many of the others.

How do we pay for classes?
Whilst our trial booking system only allows card payments, our half term invoices give you different options to pay. You can bring in the fee by cash, do bank transfer, or pay by card.

Can we pay as we go?
Due to the progressive nature of dance we can’t allow pay as you go all bookings for classes are half termly, as this allows choreography to include all children.

Is there a uniform for classes?
It’s important for dance that we’re wearing clothes were comfortable in and that can look good in exams or on stage. For Acro and contemporary this includes a leotard. For street dance we have a lovely logo t-shirt to keep them looking good. All can be purchased through our shop here: https://radancefitness.square.site/

What age does my child need to be to start?
We’ve classes available from 3 years old!

What classes are available?
We run classes in Street, Contemporary, and Acro throughout the week.

Do you do exams?
We follow the IDTA syllabus for all genres and do medal tests and grades in Acro, and Contemporary, whilst only medal tests are available in street dance we fluctuate between group and solo medal tests for this. The two exam options are great at giving the dancers purpose and documenting their own progress. Grade are great for building solid technique, whereas medal tests can help them with their performance quality.

Do you do shows?
Our last big show was in May 2024 where we took to the stage at Barnfield Theatre in Exeter. Whilst we limit the amount of big shows we do (1 in every 3 years), we do have smaller performing opportunities regularly takign part in Exmouth Festival. We also have an opportunity to take part in the Exmouth Pantomime over Christmas at the Pavillion, however this involves a little more commitment than just regular classes.

Class Information

What time is my class?
Parents are able to see the times of classes through the parent portal here.

What happens if we miss a session?
Missing the odd session here or there is fine and dancers should be able to catch up fairly easily. However when in show or exam season it’s really advisable that they don’t miss, even if they sit and watch at the side it can really help with their memory and confidence for the big event.

My child no longer wants to come. How do I let you know?
Should your child decide dance is no longer for them, send us a message before the term ends so we know they’ll be a space open for someone to try it in the new term. Any notice given after the term ends will result in you being booked on for the next term!

Competition Team

Who do we get involved with competition team?
Competition team is open to those over 7 years old who want to do competitions in the local area. We are a recreational team, so are just attempting to make our score as good as possible. It’s a year long commitment with creating and learning the group routine taking a good chunk of the year, then improving it based on feedback in the final parts of the year. If you’re interest just let us know!

My child would like to a solo. How do we make that happen?
To be considered for advanced team dancers need to be taking a minimum of two genres a week. Those who are showing promise then will be invited to be a part of advanced team for the following year. This involves being a part of the group competition team, learning a duet/trio, and then if they’ve done well with learning those may then be able to learn a solo for the last competition for the year. Dance is fairly a solo endeavour which is why it’s important they’re able to be a valued member for the competition team too.

Shop

Where do I get the uniform from?
All uniform for classes can be order through our shop, which you can access via the shop tab on our website or heading straight to: https://radancefitness.square.site/

I’ve ordered the uniform. When do I get it?
Most items of uniform will be ready to hand out to you the next time you’re in (provided there’s at least a day or two before your next class). They can be passed to the dancer or yourself in class, or should it be a gift can be left in the kitchen so you can pick up without anyone noticing!

How do we order a t-shirt/hoody?
These can also be ordered via the shop. Please note that whilst we love to see dancers in our dance school hoody, they aren’t uniform and so for classes where the hoods could get in the way they may be asked to take them off to keep the dancers safe.

Extras

Do you do holiday camps?
Yes we offer holiday camps at various times throughout the year. These are usually bookable through the parent portal via pay as you go, so you can book onto one or all the days available. You’ll know via our socials if they’re going on soon.
