Why Do A Show?

A show is an amazing experience for all the children; there’s excitment about performing in form of an audience, and is also a chance for the dancers to show you how much they’ve been improving. The show is a massive celebration about what all the children have achieved. Each show is different, but is a chance for the children to be entertaining, celebrate themselves and show off their love of dance without any examination pressure. Exams are great, but aren’t for everyone as it can feel like a tick the box exercise, shows are for entertaining and so gives the dancers more freedom to show off as there aren’t required moves.

Participation in the show is completely optional. Some will love the spotlight, but there are also those who would prefer not to. Whether the date clashes, or your student would prefer to stay of stage, all I ask is I’m told in advance if you cannot or do not want to take part. Those who aren’t doing the show do not need to stop coming to class, as choreography can be adapted to ensure those not taking part are in positions that won’t affect formations. Learning show material is a great way to improve muscle memory and benefit the precision of moves. Non-show dancers are also able to step into an important role within classes by being a swing for anyone who falls ill or is away on a school trip. Which is a great lesson in different roles in performing arts companies.
